Beernutt!

July 14, 2010

This new product from BO Gear has been a long time coming.

One of those clever, quirky, multi-use cycling accessories that are getting more and more popular. And with good reason, the more uses, the more practical. So long as it does the job properly, right?

Well I can assure you the boys in Brisbane painstakingly drank case after case of beer, in the name of research, just to bring you this product.

A humble top tube pad by day (to protect your precious frame from dings and paint chips) and the ultimate party accessory by night.

Let me introduce the Beernutt:

May you never get caught in public with a coozie around your wrist again!

Deus Swap Meet #5

July 13, 2010

Wow! I can’t believe we are already at number five!

From the humble, early and rainy start of the very first swap meet to what was to grow to an empire, I’ve been to every meet to date. In the last 2 years I’ve bared rain, climbed of my sick bed coughing up lungs, and walked away from car accidents to be at the Deus parking lot to buy, sell, swap and drool over bicycle parts.

Now all that’s stopping me from this one is a few hundred thousand kilometers and I’m not going to show. I’m a little sad to miss the bargaining, the oggling and to defend my 2nd place in the rollers, but I know you’ll all have a great time without me.

What’s your excuse?

I never thought I’d be a sucker for shoes, but….

July 13, 2010

I figured while I was sitting down at the computer I’d hit you with another…

I’m pretty stoked on the prospect of this kicks.

Brought to you by Mission Workshop, who established their name with their “Vandal” expanding backpack.

Whether you already run clipless pedals, and having been searching for that “normal looking” spd shoe, or you’ve being curious at the idea of clipless but have been thoroughly put off by the lack of choice in shoes you can actually wear out. I’m pretty sure these shoes are going to create quite a bit of excitment.

After the plethora of “urban cycling” shoes that have come out over the last year or two, that only have a *slightly* stiffer sole and some reflective material to set them apart; all I can say is its about fucking time.

They’re not out just yet, but hopefully some more companies will start to take note and follow suit.

P.S I’m off to Karslruhe, Germany tomorrow, before heading down to Geneva on thursday for the European Hardcourt Polo Championships. Karlsruhe is hosting some players from Paris and London to play some serious pick up before they compete for European glory.

I had hoped to have some photo’s up of my trip so far by now, but I haven’t quite got through them all yet. Hopefully it won’t be too long, but the only thing I’m promising  is that I will be playing lots of polo, so I can’t say when you’ll see them for sure.

They’re getting younger.

July 13, 2010

So arrived in Paris last Wednesday. Its been amazing here. The polo is great, the city is beautiful, its amazing to ride around and so ridiculously easy to get lost.I was in one of the fixed gear shops here “Cyclope” the other day and saw two kids, must have been no older than 12, each with their own fixie, trying to figure out the floor pump.Anyway, they weren’t as young as this kid, an nowhere near as tough.

Workshop Shenanigans

June 26, 2010

Taking care of customers bikes….. in STYLE!

More touring, yo!?

June 15, 2010

Geekhouse is a kick-ass little custom frame builder located in Boston, and Greg, one of the crew there (who just happens to be a real swell guy) and his parnter Bianca are about to embark on a tour from Boston to San Fran.

Greg is still on the mend after breaking his collar bone only 2 and a half months ago(!!!) but will jumping on his sweet, sweet GeekHouse touring bike to raise money for the Autism Society of America.

If you have the heart or the wallet to help out, you can donate HERE!

Did I also mention that Geekhouse make some fucking awesome frames, and one will soon be mine!?

Global Gutz 2010!

June 15, 2010

“The idea of Global Gutz is to have a live traffic bicycle courier race in lots of cities all over the world, starting simultaneously, e.g. at 1 p.m. in San Francisco, and 4 p.m. in New York,  etc. and held over a given distance and a given amount of checkpoints in an effort to try to make race conditions as equal as possible for everyone. This way we can have a world wide competition without spending a lot of money for traveling somewhere. Everyone will just be racing in their hometown knowing that in various cities around the world there are messengers racing with or against them”

Global Gutz always proves to be epic and gruellingly fast. Its point-to-point so its all about SPEED.

Yes it’s a “courier” event, but it is open to all riders and all bikes.

Here’s hoping for good weather but I don’t think we could do much worse than last year.

And a reminder to Brisbane: don’t forget your bells!
